Needed to print something for our forthcoming trip, and got hit by a U052 error on my Canon MG5250. Apparently, it means that the print head is the wrong type – yet it’s the one that came with the printer!
A quick google showed that I am not alone, and this error has been happening for years – yet still remains unresolved… Various solutions have been offered (from turning it off for 10 minutes to leaving in water overnight), but nothing that works for everyone.
So, I removed the cartridges, removed the print head, cleaned away obvious ink with cotton buds and tissue, and reassembled. U052 gone – brilliant! Until I sent over a print, when back it came…
Repeated the cleaning, but this time I ran a local nozzle pattern print before attempting to send a file over: the test pattern printed OK, and then so did the file…
All very mysterious, and totally unacceptable. The thing is, I don’t print very often, and use it mainly as a scanner, but that U052 won’t even allow scanning! Absurd. Add to this the fact that as soon as one colour cartridge is empty, it won’t allow you to print greyscale – even though there are two black cartridges with ink in!
Had enough of Canon and need to look for a sensible printer (if such a thing exists).
