Set off for a walk this morning and noticed 5 workmen clustered around a hole. Manhole cover was up, and I saw they were pulling cables through… So I asked them what it was for – and it seems they were pulling cables for Virgin Media! High speed internet is on its way to Greno
Seems that ridiculous parking along Winnats is hardly a new phenomenon! This photo (from Derbyshire Times) is from some time in the 1960s… And when you factor in car ownership being much lower back then, and general public awareness of the area, it’s maybe even more horrendous!
Finally managed to ditch Origin! Got through to complaints (South Africa, of course), and the woman said they’d been getting lots of calls about date issues – but she insisted my end date was still 3rd November and not 11th March… So I asked her what was the start date for this supposed contract –

After successfully getting wifi to stay up, Microsoft kindly decide to force me to update to the dreaded WIndows 11 24H2. OK, it seemed to work well, but I was back to the wifi adaptor struggling to connect to the router, or else bouncing up and down. Seems the update didn’t carry forward the power

This can be a pretty miserable time of year, but we were lucky to wake up to a rather impressive cloud inversion over Sheffield this morning. This is looking south-east from Greno, and Keppel’s Column can be seen on an “island” to the left. Just a pity the camera on my phone is disappointingly crap.
When I first got this new PC back in August, I never had any issue with my wi-fi connection. Then occasionally the adapter would not connect automatically on power-up. Which gradually deteriorated to 90% of power-ups, and I had to go through disabling/enabling the adapter a few times till it would connect. Annoying and mysterious,
