Better add something new!

If I’m going to be arsed to keep up this site, I might as well post now and again! Not that a great deal has been going on, but it’s nice to have a record of things I will have forgotten in the future.

  • Been very negligent over the autumn/winter months regarding walking. Weather’s been crap, Peak can wait till spring/summer, and walking around Greno has become far too familiar to get much enjoyment out of. As usual, walking flat or downhill is absolutely fine, but any uphill walk is just a pain (literally). Not even sure how far or how long I could handle doing now! I did try going at a slower pace (2.5 – 3mph) last summer: good idea for the body, but just makes me sluggish and drowsy mentally.
  • Alcohol intake has been virtually non-existent since the end of August! Not a forced choice as such, just got fed up with the persistent rough feeling the next day. I did have a couple of bottles of Peroni at Becky’s at Christmas, but that’s all. Thing is, I can’t say I miss it in the slightest, but I’m certainly not going to classify myself as TT!
  • No idea what we’re doing for a holiday this year. Last year was barren for me as Mel went back to Bohol for 7 weeks… That was plenty of time to allow her to make the decision to buy a van while she was there! It does make sense, I suppose: all transport there has really rocketed up in price, and it does give her and her family the freedom to easily get around the whole island. Most of the driving was done by Mark, but Mel did do one or two trips. Was she allowed to drive there? UK licence and no insurance? God knows… I didn’t delve…
  • Anyway, holiday! We did think about a not too expensive river cruise along the Rhine to Switzerland to celebrate 20th wedding anniversary. Then Mel started chatting to cousin Julie, who said we could go stay with her. She has a new flat in Offenburg, which is very close to Strasbourg and not a million miles away from Switzerland. Then, a couple of weeks later, Julie decided she needs to use her leave in June to go see mother Cita in Philadelphia…. So… back to square zero…
  • Mel decided it was time for me to buy her a new iPhone… OK, she’s not had one for 5 years, but this iPhone 17 Pro Max thingy was £1400! Madness… Technology is getting beyond my comprehension now. The new phone automatically transferred everything from the old phone to new – including the SIM! That had me puzzled until it clicked that the new one uses eSIM tech and so doesn’t need a physical SIM. Which means, of course, that you can now have multiple “SIMs” in an iPhone, and could be useful for travelling abroad. Does this mark the end for physical SIMs? Pity those poor sods with dumb phones if so…
  • Becky seems to be chugging along OK. She’s now Legal Director at Taurus HR, and the owner (Laura) has given her some kind of partnership in the firm. At the moment, she’s in Budapest… Why? Visiting Alissa… Alissa split up with her Norwegian boyfriend, got one from Hungary (Web designer), and moved over there to study last September. Becky’s just staying a few days and then catching train to Vienna to see an old friend. It’s a different world…
