It’s a very rare occasion when you have to call doubt on something on an OS map, but I found out the hard way today that they can get things wrong. The OS25 has a very good path marked dropping from Houndkirk Road down to the Burbage valley. I was following the only good path, and when I checked with Alpinequest, I was well “off track”. So, I cut back to find the OS path. There was a stile, so looking good. And then a path which was nothing more than a sheep trod. And which soon petered out to nothing… So, had to struggle across heather and boggy bits to get back onto the original path. All very annoying and unnecessary. The supposed OS path does not show on Google Earth, so what made them think such a good path exists?!
Addendum
Having looked at other maps on the OS site, it’s still puzzling. The Greenspace does not show it; nor does the Aerial; but the National Park Pathways and OS25/50 do show it. Fact remains, it does not exist!
