Or didn’t until yesterday… Storm Darragh’s been wreaking havoc along the west coast (especially Wales), but we usually get off lightly with these storms. This time, we got well and truly hit with a power cut around 4pm. And Northern Power Grid became a pain in the arse with their constant text updates:
“We are aware of a power cut in your area…”
“Your power should be back on…”
Rinse and repeat ad nauseam… So, we had to just had to hang around in the dark and cold, layered up, gazing wistfully at lights in other parts of Sheffield, longing for a hot drink! (Since we had the kitchen done, we no longer have gas to boil up some water…)
Thankfully, we did have a decent charged-up power pack to charge phones and tablets and provide some diversion. Mel just went to bed about 7pm; I lasted till 8:30 and my watch tells me I went to sleep at the ungodly hour of 9:45 with a total sleep time of 8h 51 min! This is unheard of, and I’d rather not make a habit of it!
I did get up for a wee around 4am and was pleased to see that power was back. But when was it restored? I’d scheduled a recording of Match Of The Day, and it seems I managed to record the last 30 minutes of it, which means we must have had power around 11pm, i.e powerless for 7 hours. Be glad when this storm has buggered off…
First world problems, eh…?
