Southern Region Sheds
The shed is on a spur off the main line between Vauxhall and Queens Road Stations.
Turn right outside Wandsworth Road Station along Wandsworth Road. Turn left into Brooklands Road. The shed entrance is at the end of this road. Walking time 15 minutes.

The shed is on the south side of the line east of the station. The yard is partially visible from the line.
Go straight ahead outside Hounslow Station along Station Road and turn left into Hanworth Road. Continue along this road for about a mile, and a drive leads to the shed from the right-hand side, opposite the junction of Powder Mill Lane. Walking time 25 minutes.
The No. 110 and 111 bus routes operate along Hanworth Road between Station Road and Powder Mill Lane.
The shed entrance opposite the end of Powder Mill Lane may also be approached as follows:-
From Hounslow East L.T.E. Station
Board a southbound No. 111 bus outside the station and alight at the end of Powder Mill Lane.
From Twickenham Station
Board a No. 110 bus at the terminus outside the station and alight at thejunction of Powder Mill Lane and Hanworth Road.
From Southall Station
Board a southbound No. 120 bus outside the station and alight at Great West Road. Change on to a southbound No. 111 bus at this point and alight at the end of Powder Mill Lane.
The shed is on the west side of the line south of the station. The yard is visible from the line.
Turn right outside the station and then first right into Farnham Road. The shed entrance is on the left-hand side just past the railway under-bridge. Walking time 5 minutes.
Note.—The shed yard extends under the road bridge and there are live rails in the vicinity of the yard.
The shed is on the north side of the line west of the station. The yard is visible from the line.
Go straight ahead outside the main exit from the station into Station Hill. Turn right into Junction Road and right at the end into Chapel Street. Fork left under the bridge, and the shed entrance is on the left-hand side immediately past this bridge. Walking time 5 minutes.
The shed is on the west side of the line at the south end of Ryde, St. John’s Road Station. The yard is visible from the 1ine.
The shed entrance is in the station yard.
Note.—The works are on the opposite side ofthe line to the shed.
71A EASTLEIGH
The shed is on the east side of the Swaythling line south of the station. The yard is visible from the line.
Turn left outside the station into the main Southampton Road. Turn first left into Campbell Road crossing the railway. Bear right with this road and the shed entrance is on the right-hand side. Walking time 10 minutes.
FRATTON
The shed is on the east side of the line north of the station. The yard is partially visible from the line.
Leave the station by the southern exit, turning left into Goldsmith Avenue. Pass the car sheds and a cinder path leads to the shed from the left-hand side of this road. Walking time 10 minutes.
Note.—This shed is officially closed, but locomotives are housed overnight.

71B BOURNEMOUTH
The shed is on the north side of the line west of Bournemouth Central Station. The yard is visible from the line.
The shed entrance is a gate at the end of the yard on the northern (up) side of Bournemouth Central Station. Walking time less than 5 minutes.
There is also an entrance in Beechey Road.
BRANKSOME
The shed is in the fork of the Bournemouth West-Bournemouth Central and the Bournemouth West-Branksome lines. The yard is visible from the lines.
Turn left outside Branksome Station into Poole Road and left into Bourne Valley Road. A drive leads through the goods yard to the shed from a gate on the right-hand side between the railway over-bridges. Walking time 10 minutes.
7lG WEYMOUTH
The shed is on the east side of the line north of Weymouth Station. The yard is visible from the line.
Turn left outside the station into Queen’s Street and left into Ranelagh Street. Continue along the public footpath running parallel to the line. A cinder path leads to the shed from a gate on the left-hand side near the end of the public footpath. Walking time 15 minutes.
71I SOUTHAMPTON DOCKS
The shed is in Southampton Old Docks.
Turn sharp left outside Southampton Terminus Station into Canute Road. Enter the Docks by No. 7 Gate a few yards further on the right-hand side. Continue straight ahead along the dock road until a number of lines cross this road. Follow these to the left to the shed. Walking time 10 minutes.
When No. 7 Gate is closed enter the Docks by the Main Gate which is reached by turning right outside the station into Canute Road.
Sub-shed: SOUTHAMPTON NEW DOCKS
72A EXMOUTH JUNCTION
The shed is on the north side of the main line just east of junction of the Exmouth line.
Turn right outside Polsloe Bridge Halt along the main road and left into Beacon Lane. Proceed under a railway bridge and turn left along a pathway running parallel to the railway. At the end of this path, turn right along a similar pathway and left at the end into Prince Charles Road. The shed entrance is on the left hand side a few yards further on. Walking time 10 minutes.
Exeter Corporation bus service D (Beacon Heath) operates from Exeter St. David’s Station past Exeter Central Station to a point in Prince Charles Road adjacent to the shed entrance.
EXMOUTH
The shed is at the east side of the station. The yard is visible from the line.
Entrance is effected, from the eastern side of the station.
OKEHAMPTON
The shed is on the north side of the line east of the station. The yard is visible from the line

72B SALISBURY
The shed is on the south side of the line west of the station. The yard is visible from the line.
Cross the station yard, descend a Hight of steps into Church fields Road, and turn right. Continue parallel to the railway and the shed entrance is on the right hand side at the corner of Cherry Orchard Lane. Walking time 10 minutes.
72C YEOVIL TOWN
The shed is on the south side of Yeovil (Town )Station. The yard is visible from the line.
Entrance to the shed is effected from the down platform.
72E BARNSTAPLE JUNCTION
The shed is on the east side of the line at the south end of Barnstaple Junction Station. The yard is visible from the line.
The shed entrance is in the station yard.

72F WADEBRIDGE
The shed is at the north east side of the station. The yard is visible from the line.
Entrance to the shed is effected from the up platform. Another entrance to the shed is from the small lane, leading from the level-crossing at the north-east end of the station.
73C HITHER GREEN (Diesel depot)
The shed is in the triangle of the Hither Green-Grove Park-Lee lines. The yard is visible from the Grove Park line and the connecting loop.
A cinder path leads from No. 4 platform to the shed. Walking time less than 5 minutes.

73E FAVERSHAM (Diesel depot)
The shed is in the fork of the Margate and Canterbury lines east of the station. The yard is visible from the lines.
Turn right outside the station along Station Road. Turn left into St. Mary’s Road and right into Chapel Street. Continue along the path that leads across the park at the end of the street. Ascend the flight of steps that leads on to the footbridge at the far side of the park. A flight of steps leads from the centre of this bridge to the shed. Walking time 15 minutes.
73F ASHFORD (KENT)
The shed is on the east side of the Folkestone line south of the station. The yard is visible from the line.
Turn left outside the down (southbound) side of the station, or right outside the up (northbound) side of the station. Turn left into the road that leads over the bridge at the north end of the station and almost immediately turn left again into a private S.R. road that runs parallel to the railway. Continue along this road for about a mile passing the works entrance, and bear left stll the time. At the end of this road turn left over a level-crossing. A broad path leads to the shed from the left-hand side of this road about 200 yards past the level-crossing. Walking time 25 minutes.
A bus service labelled Hunter Avenue operates from the station to the shed entrance (near the terminus).
DOVER
The shed is on the south side of the line west of Dover Marine Station. The yard is visible from the line.
From Dover Marine Station
A cinder path runs along the side of the line to the shed from a level-crossing opposite the entrance to Dover Marine Station.
From Dover Priory Station
Leave that station by the approach and continue into Folkestone Road and Priory Street. Turn right into Biggin Street.
Continue along Cannon Street and cross Market Square into King Street, continuing into Bench Street. Turn right into Snargate Street, continue into Limekiln Street and fork left along The Viaduct. Turn right by the dock entrance to the level-crossing outside Dover Marine Station. Walking time 25 minutes.
The No. 94 bus service operates from Cannon Street to Dover Marine Station.
Note.—Dover Marine Station is new only used by boat trains.
FOLKESTONE
The shed is at the north side of the line at the east end of Folkestone East Station. The yard is visible from the line.
Entrance to the shed is effected from a gate on the down platform.
75A BRIGHTON
The shed is in the fork of the Haywards Heath and Worthing lines at the north end of the station. The yard is visible from the lines.
Turn right outside the station along Terminus Road (this road runs parallel to the railway). Continue into Howard Place and then turn right into New England Road. A broad path leads from the right-hand side of the road to the shed. Walking time 10 minutes.
NEWHAVEN
The shed is on the west side of Newhaven Town Station. The shed is partially visible from the line.
A cinder path leads from the north end of the up platform to the shed.
There is also an entrance from the Quay.
75B REDHILL
The shed is in the fork of the Tonbridge and Brighton lines south of the station. The yard is visible from both lines.
Turn left outside the main entrance to the station (up side), and left again under the railway bridge along Station Road. This road bears to the right and a private road leads to the shed through the goods yard entrance on the right—hand side, at the top of the hill. Walking time 5 minutes.
75C NORWOOD JUNCTION
The shed is on the east side of the Anerley line north of the station. The southbound Crystal Palace fly-over runs at the other side of the shed. The yard is visible from both lines.
Turn right outside the main entrance to the station along a footpath running parallel to the line. Turn left at the end of this path into Portland Road. Turn right at the traffic lights into High Street and continue over the railway bridge into Penge Road. A cinder path leads over a footbridge to the shed from the left—hand side of this road (just past the railway bridge). Walking time 10 minutes.

75D STEWARTS LANE
The shed is in a maze of lines between Wandsworth Road and Battersea Park Stations. The yard is partially visible from the Battersea Park-Wandsworth Road, and the Victoria-Brixton lines.
Turn left outside Queen’s Road (Battersea) Station into Queenstown Road and fork left into Silverthorne Road. The shed entrance is a gate on the left-hand side marked “Longhedge Works.” Walking time 5 minutes.

TONBRIDGE
The shed is in the fork of the Tunbridge Wells and Ashford lines at the east end of the station. The yard is visible from both lines.
Leave the station by the main exit and turn right over the bridge. Turn left into Priory Road. The shed entrance is a gate on the left-hand side. Walking time 5 minutes.
75E THREE BRIDGES
The shed is in the fork of the Horsham and Haywards Heath lines south of the station. The yard is partially visible from both lines.
Go straight ahead out of the station, and turn left into the main road. Turn first left along a cinder path past an electricity sub-station. This path continues under the Horsham line and leads to the shed. Walking time 5 minutes.
HORSHAM
The shed is on the east side of the line north of the station. The yard is partially visible from the line.
Turn right outside the station, and continue over the railway bridge. Turn first left along Foundry Road (unadopted), and a cinder path leads to the shed from a gate on the left-hand side. Walking time 5 minutes.
75F TUNBRIDGE WELLS WEST
The shed is on the north side of the line at the west end of the station. The yard is visible from the line. The shed entrance is a gate in Tunbridge Wells West Station yard.
A bus service connects Tunbridge Wells Central and West Stations.
